Leonard C. Tillman, partner in Balch’s Birmingham office and member of the Energy Practice, was a guest presenter at the IEEE 2019 Global Blockchain Summit on September 16th, at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD. At the summit, Leonard presented “A Lawyer’s Perspective on Blockchain: Legal Code vs. Smart Contract Code” including an overview of some of the high level issues associated with incorporating the vagaries of the law into a binary automated system.
Leonard provides counsel on utility regulatory policy matters, particularly new smart energy policies and related market developments. Leonard is a member of The GridWise® Architecture Council. The Council was formed by the U.S. Department of Energy to promote and help enable interoperability among the many entities that interact with the nation's electric power system.
