Balch & Bingham is pleased to announce that Allen Estes, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Litigation Practice, has been named Southeastern Regional Director for DRI, the largest international organization of defense attorneys and in-house counsel. Allen will serve a three-year term on the DRI Board of Directors from 2020-2023.
Founded in 1960, DRI has served as the voice of the defense bar for 60 years, offering resources to defense attorneys who strive to provide high-quality, balanced and excellent service to their clients. Its goals include educating defense law practitioners, striving for improvement in the civil justice system, serving as a counterpoint to the plaintiff’s bar, assisting members with the economic realities of defense law practice and promoting ethics and responsibility among members.
Allen has been a member of DRI for 20 years. He previously served the organization as the Alabama State Representative from 2017-2020 and is currently a member of its Product Liability Committee.
“I look forward to taking on this new leadership role within DRI as they continue to serve as the voice of the national civil defense bar,” Allen said. “DRI’s commitment to enhancing the professionalism of defense lawyers and improving the civil justice system exemplifies the value Balch places on giving back to the legal community.”
A member of Balch’s Litigation, Energy Litigation and Joint Use & Pole Attachments practices, Allen works with energy companies and other innovative businesses to identify and resolve problems. Though he began his career exclusively focused on trial work, he often manages resolution through creative solutions that allow businesses to focus on opportunities rather than disputes. Bringing a trial attorney's mindset to negotiations allows Allen to identify, explain and resolve problems before business operations are negatively impacted.
Allen is a member of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association (ADLA), and he served as the organization’s president from 2016-2017. He has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America for Commercial Litigation since 2013 and by Chambers USA for Litigation: General Commercial.
