Dave Boyd Appointed Sixth President of the Alabama Law Institute
Dave Boyd, Balch & Bingham partner in the firm’s Birmingham and Montgomery offices, and member of the Litigation Practice, was elected the sixth President of the Alabama Law Institute (ALI) on Friday, July 16, 2021 at its summer meeting, held in conjunction with the Alabama State Bar Annual Meeting.
Members of the ALI are selected for their skill and demonstrated ability to craft legislation regarding highly complex legal issues. Less than 1% of lawyers in the state of Alabama currently hold an ALI term membership.
For more than 50 years, the ALI has been a trusted and respected organization for non-partisan legislative drafting in Alabama. The primary purpose of the ALI is to clarify and simplify the laws of Alabama, revise laws that are out-of-date, and fill in gaps in the law where there exists legal confusion.
In addition to Dave’s election as President, Adam Israel, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Litigation Practice, was appointed to a six-year term as a Rotating Member of the ALI in March of this year. Adam’s election follows his prior service on multiple Alabama Law Institute Committees. Will Hill Tankersley Jr., partner in the firm’s Montgomery office and member of the Litigation Practice, has been a member of ALI for more than 20 years and currently serves on the Council, which is ALI's governing body.
Dave’s diverse litigation practice has included representation of some of the country’s largest companies in complex, high-stakes disputes both at trial and on appeal.
His professional affiliations include the American Bar Foundation Fellows, Alabama Law Foundation Fellows and National Conference of Bar Examiners. Among his many awards and accolades are the William D. Scruggs Service to the Bar Award and the Alabama State Bar Award of Merit. Dave is a long-time member of ALI’s Executive Committee and has served on numerous ALI committees.
