Balch & Bingham is pleased to announce that Alan Lovett, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the firm’s globally ranked Nuclear Energy Practice, has been selected as one of Birmingham’s 2025 Top 40 Under 40 by the Birmingham Business Journal (BBJ).
The award, now in its 40th year, recognizes rising stars in Birmingham’s business community who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and impact in their fields before the age of 40.
Alan is a nationally recognized leader in nuclear energy law, advising clients on complex, high-stakes projects critical to the future of clean, reliable energy. He has played a key role in groundbreaking initiatives such as the construction and licensing of Vogtle Units 3 & 4, the first new nuclear units in the U.S. in over 20 years, and has guided billion-dollar transactions, including the historic merger creating one of the largest zero-carbon generation companies in the country. His expertise spans the full lifecycle of nuclear projects, from construction and operation to decommissioning and the first-ever planned restart of a retired nuclear facility.
Beyond his innovative work in the energy sector, Alan is committed to empowering Birmingham’s business community and enriching its quality of life. As Birmingham Project Coordinator for Balch Business Boost, he has helped nearly 20 small and disadvantaged businesses navigate legal challenges, supporting their growth and Birmingham’s economic vitality. Alan is also a passionate advocate for conservation and recreation, volunteering with local trail running organizations. He is an active member of his church and community with his wife and two children.
Alan earned his J.D. from Duke University School of Law and holds a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He has been recognized for his work in the Chambers Global Guide for four consecutive years in the category of USA Energy: Nuclear (Regulatory & Litigation).
