Balch & Bingham Strengthens Litigation Practice with Addition of Dan Martin, Expanding White-Collar Criminal Defense Capabilities
Balch & Bingham is pleased to welcome Dan Martin to the firm’s nationally recognized Litigation Practice as a Partner in the Birmingham office. A seasoned trial attorney with more than 20 years of experience, Dan’s practice focuses on white-collar criminal defense, as well as healthcare and employment litigation, strengthening the firm’s capabilities to serve clients facing complex, high-stakes disputes.
Dan’s white-collar criminal defense practice focuses on bet-the-company and bet-your-liberty cases for individuals and businesses facing DOJ investigations or prosecutions, including matters involving the False Claims Act and Anti-Kickback Statute. He has achieved favorable trial outcomes, plea deals with no prison time, and settlements far below government demands. Dan has also convinced federal prosecutors to drop charges or to not bring charges at all. Additionally, Dan regularly handles whistleblower cases, and government investigations and enforcement actions. He conducts internal investigations on sensitive matters, advising clients on complex decisions like self-reporting.
Dan also focuses his practice on complex commercial and employment litigation, representing clients ranging from individuals to Fortune 500 companies, across industries such as healthcare, energy, banking, construction, and manufacturing.
“Dan’s breadth of experience and track record of success in both white-collar defense and commercial litigation adds great value to our team,” said Allen Estes, Chair of the firm’s Litigation Practice. “He’s a proven advocate who will be an asset to our clients navigating highly challenging and consequential disputes. We’re happy to welcome him to Balch.”
Dan received his J.D. with honors from Notre Dame Law School in 2004 and has been recognized for excellence by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America®, Mid-South Super Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.
“Balch’s reputation for excellence, combined with its deep bench of talented attorneys and collaborative approach, made it an easy decision for me,” said Dan Martin, partner. “The firm’s strong resources and cross-practice support create a powerful environment for providing outstanding client service. I’m excited to be part of this team.”
Dan is a member of the Notre Dame Club of Northern Alabama and a former trustee of Stillman College. He serves on the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) panel, providing legal representation for indigent federal defendants and supporting the constitutional right to counsel. He is a dedicated member of Vestavia Hills Methodist Church, where he has held various leadership positions.
Balch’s Litigation Practice includes more than 90 attorneys handling a wide variety of disputes, covering almost every area of the law.
