In Memoriam - Todd Kimbrough

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Todd Kimbrough’s passing after a brief illness.

“Todd was a partner, friend, and leader whose impact on our firm and the energy sector was profound. He cared deeply about his colleagues and clients, always giving his best to those around him. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father. We will miss him greatly,” said Balch Managing Partner Stan Blanton.

Todd is survived by his wife Candace McWhirter Kimbrough; their son Knox Copeland Kimbrough; his aunt Sandy (Alton) Steelman; and cousins Amy (Lonnie) Tarrant, Susan Davis, and John Paul (Becky) Steelman.

Todd joined the firm in 2021, and served as Office Managing Partner in the firm’s Austin, Texas office. A distinguished energy attorney with more than two decades of experience, Todd’s career spanned private practice, corporate leadership, and regulatory counsel before he joined Balch. He had a remarkable ability to navigate complex legal and business challenges, always approaching his work with sharp insight and a deep dedication to his clients and the industry.

He earned his J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, where Todd was recognized with the Administrative Law Award and served as an editor of the Law Review.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Todd was a devoted husband and father, always putting his family at the center of his life. He and his wife, Candace, shared a love of animals, and over the years, Todd embraced her passion for horses—competing in shows and earning numerous blue ribbons. But nothing brought him more pride than being a father to Knox. He loved sharing his passions with his son, whether teaching him chess, discussing their mutual love for history, or analyzing sports statistics. Todd had a special way of making everyday moments meaningful, always finding time to encourage, support, and make Knox laugh.

Todd will be missed by all, and his legacy will endure in the many lives he touched.
