My clients include traditional vertically integrated public utilities, unbundled RTO transmission owners, transmission providers, Federal State and local government-owned utilities, merchant generation asset managers, IPP and equity investment funds (passive and active investors).

The matters I work on most focus on FERC litigation and RTO matters, with emphasis on market-based rates, contested market design proceedings and merger authorizations.

I have been honored and privileged to serve my community as the Chair of the Vestavia Hills Planning and Zoning Commission since 2004. Vestavia Hills is a very fast growing suburb of Birmingham, Alabama. I also serve the legal community focused on energy, natural resource and environmental law – most recently by serving on the Governing Council for the American Bar Association Section on Environment, Energy and Resources. Additionally, I am a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Jefferson County, Alabama working to reunite families.

I see changes in technology and state interests in diverse and resilient generation supply as driving change in the way electricity is generated, transmitted and used. In particular, transformation of our regional power generation fleets and associated distribution of new sources of generation and demand response capabilities are major drivers in the industry. I have clients involved in all aspects of this supply chain and each has a different set of issues and challenges. I think attorneys working with the electricity industry have to be students of their client’s businesses and be proactive, yet practical in serving their clients during a transformative period in a major aspect of our economy.
