Our attorneys provide counsel to higher education and public school (K-12) clients and to education-related agencies, and represent them in administrative hearings, trials, and before appellate courts in matters with a particular importance in the educational setting. These include faculty and staff employment cases, compliance with FERPA, CIPA, and other laws regulating students' rights, compliance with open meetings and public records laws, claims of discrimination under Title VI (race) and Title IX (gender), cases involving constitutional issues such as freedom of speech under the First Amendment, voting rights and school board redistricting, and matters relating to athletics. Lawyers also represent education clients in matters not unique to the educational arena, such as cases arising under Title VII and other applicable employment laws, contract disputes, and compliance with environmental laws and regulations. We regularly represent education clients in state legislatures.
