Balch & Bingham has represented a number of clients who purchase and sell coal and natural gas for many years. Our clients include coal and gas property owners, large utility companies as well as companies that use these fuels in process manufacturing operations. We also represent a number of sellers of natural gas that are located in the Southeast region of the U.S. We have represented parties in the negotiation of supply, transportation, storage, mineral leases, and other commercial transactions pertaining to U.S. and foreign coal, natural gas and alternative fuels. We represent our clients before federal and state regulatory agencies that have jurisdiction over their fuel transactions. We work closely with our clients - understanding their business and their concerns is a priority for our attorneys.

Our practice is fully integrated with the rest of the firm, and our attorneys routinely advise our clients on all aspects of the coal and natural gas business, including antitrust, real estate issues, tax issues, environmental matters, and bankruptcy. We have significant experience in handling complex corporate transactions and financings, deal structuring, environmental issues and taxation matters for our fuel clients. A number of our litigators are experienced in coal and gas matters, and have represented clients in arbitrations and lawsuits in such matters as citizen complaints, contract disputes, and enforcement actions.
