Jeremy Retherford Quoted in Birmingham Business Journal Regarding Bankruptcy Trends in Wake of COVID-19

Jeremy Retherford, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and co-chair of the Financial Services Practice, discussed bankruptcy trends in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic with the Birmingham Business Journal, on June 2, 2020.

Jeremy shared insights on the current increase in bankruptcy filings across the nation and commented that it is unclear how many of the filings are a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic. He explained that Birmingham trends are likely to follow those seen on a national level with retail and hospitality filings, which may then lead to an increase in commercial real estate filings. Many in the insolvency profession expect these changes to take place in the coming months.

As co-chair of Balch’s Financial Services Practice, Jeremy represents financial institutions, utilities, and other creditors faced with troubled credit. He has more than 15 years of experience working with clients at all stages of bankruptcy.
