Steven Burns Named to LGBTQ Fund Advisory Committee

Steven Burns, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Environmental and Natural Resources Practice, has been named to the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham’s LGBTQ Fund Advisory Committee.

During Steven’s 12-month term, which began in January, 2024, he will help lead fundraising efforts to support local causes important to the LGBTQ+ community.

“Balch’s support of the LGBTQ Fund and the Community Foundation is all about improving the lives of our neighbors of our friends and neighbors, including those that have been underserved or underrepresented,” Steven said. “The LGBTQ Fund does a great job of supporting some terrific organizations that are working hard to make a meaningful difference.”

Founded in 1959, the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life across a five-county region. It built on, and continues to thrive on, the idea that together, we have the power to create transformational change. The foundation is committed to empowering individuals, igniting passion, and pursuing a vision of a brighter future for Greater Birmingham. 

At Balch, Steven advises clients on coal ash, waste and contamination, waterways, environmental justice, air and water quality, wetlands, protected species, and natural resources. Steven has counseled clients under all the major statutes including the Clean Water Act (CAA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Superfund program (CERCLA), and the Clean Air Act (CAA). Steven serves as Counsel and Secretary to the National Waterways Conference, a trade association focused on federal waterway projects, as well as Chair of the association’s Legislative Policy Committee. He also serves on the board of the Alabama Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association. 

Steven is recognized by Chambers USA and The Best Lawyers in America® in America for his work in Environmental Law. Steven is a member of Balch & Bingham's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council. He is also an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham.
