Russell Dumas, partner in the firm’s Jackson office and member of Balch’s Labor & Employment Practice, was quoted by Law360 about numerous wage bills that may advance in the new Congress, and the impact they could have on employers.
In the article published January 8, Russell discussed several measures that could impact companies if enacted, including the bipartisan proposal to remove taxes on tips.
In the article, Russell is quoted saying that removing taxes on tips would "be a whole new world" for employers and said, "They're going to have to reevaluate how they do business, how they pay their employees, how it's going to affect their bottom line, the cost of doing business."
Russell noted that questions remain, such as what reporting requirements employers and workers would have under such a policy.
At Balch, Russell focuses on labor and employment and related litigation matters. He guides employers through the evolving legal landscape of labor and employment law by advising companies regarding compliance with state and federal law and regulations and defending employers before state and federal courts and administrative agencies.
