Russell Dumas, partner in the firm’s Jackson office and member of the Labor & Employment Practice, delivered the presentation, “Employment Developments: LGBTQ and Religious Rights.”
Russell focused on recent caselaw affecting LGBTQ rights and employers, employer group health plan requirements for transgender medical procedures, and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 (RFRA). He discussed how Title VII, the Affordable Care Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act intersect regarding transgender employee healthcare and examined religious liberty rights in the workplace through recent legal developments.
Christina Nuñez, attorney in the firm’s Health Law Practice, and Claire Williams, attorney in the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice, presented “Antitrust in Employment Developments.”
Christina and Claire’s presentation covered recent legal updates regarding the Federal Trade Commission’s Final Rule banning non-compete clauses, which was set to take effect on September 4, 2024. They discussed the current suspension of the Rule due to a ruling from the Northern District of Texas and outlined proactive steps employers can take to prepare for its potential impact, including reviewing and revising existing agreements potentially affected by the Rule.
