Energy
The energy industry remains critical to the growth and economic vitality of our nation. Balch has served the industry for more than 90 years and helped clients in the energy sector navigate complex challenges, market demands and emerging technologies. We represent a wide range of entities in the energy arenas—ranging from electric utilities, energy cooperatives, independent power producers, project developers, and investment funds.
Our attorneys include some of the industry's leading practitioners before state public utility commissions, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). We are also heavily involved and versed in the business of producing, transmitting and delivering energy services, in both regulated and unregulated markets. Additionally, we are actively involved in consulting on developing energy legislation, and work with clients to anticipate and respond to potential effects.
Our attorneys remain at the forefront of energy law and provide counsel to energy-related entities and also to industry groups on tropics including operating plant compliance, legislative proposals, rulemakings, financing, transactions and commercial disputes.
Among our more recent representations is our ongoing service as lead counsel to the applicant for the first-ever combined licenses for two new nuclear units issued by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NCR), which Chambers USA described as “precedent-setting.”
